Bio

I am entering my 10th year in education and my second year at Villa Rica High School. I began my teaching career after graduating from the University of West Georgia in 2016 with a degree in Early Childhood Education. I spent my first four years teaching in the general education setting at Villa Rica Elementary.
In the 2020–2021 school year, I transitioned into the role of ESOL teacher and discovered my passion for supporting multilingual learners while working at Central and Mount Zion Middle Schools. The following year, I returned home to the Villa Rica cluster, where I’ve continued to grow and serve with purpose.
In December 2022, I earned my Master’s degree in English as a Second Language and Bilingual Education. This fall, I will begin pursuing my Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instructional Design at Kennesaw State University.
I am the lead advisor for the Purple PEARLS and an advisor for the Cuatro Club. I truly love the Villa Rica community and am dedicated to helping all of my students develop a lifelong love of learning as they prepare to enroll, enlist, or become employed after high school.

Meet Mrs. Cano
When I’m not teaching, you can usually find me spending time with my family, reading a good book, or playing with our sweet dog, Peaches.
My husband, David, and I are big soccer fans. We love watching matches together and proudly cheer for Atlanta United, as well as the U.S. and Colombian National Teams. We’re also big baseball fans and love rooting for the Atlanta Braves as a family.
David is Colombian, and our boys are bilingual, even though they like to pretend they don’t understand Spanish when it’s convenient.
Another shared passion of ours is trying new foods, much to our kids’ dismay. If you have any fun recipes or restaurant recommendations, we’re always up for an adventure!
I truly love my students as if they were my own. They are the reason I continue to grow and learn as an educator every single day.
