I have taught for thirty-one years, with twenty-nine of those being with the Carroll County School System. I am currently teaching in my twentieth year at Villa Rica High School where I teach six classes of Driver Education daily.

I am Rick Parmer and I teach Driver's Education here at Villa Rica High School. I was born in Atlanta and lived in the Atlanta area until my family moved to Carroll County in 1967. I graduated from Bowdon High School in 1973 where I played quarterback on the 1971 State Championship football team. Upon graduation I began college in Carrollton at West Georgia College. I graduated in 1977 with a degree in Physical Education. I taught and coached for two years at Rockmart High School in Polk County before coming to Villa Rica High School in 1979 for two years before going to teach for five years at Villa Rica Middle School. During that time I attained my Master's and Specialist's degrees in Middle Grades Education. In 1986 I taught for three years at Central Middle School, teaching Physical Education and coaching football at Central High during the state championship years of 1986 and 1987. I also coached girls' track at the high school.

I left teaching for about ten years and went into private business until I reentered education in the fall of 1999. I taught at the Carroll County Alternative School for three years before coming back to Villa Rica High in February of 2002. The driver's education program was started again in the second semester of 2003 and I have been teaching driver's ed to VRHS students since then.

I have been married to my lovely wife, Gail, who is currently the principal at Temple Middle School, since 1983. We have one son, Seth, who is the Head Golf Teaching Professional at Mirror Lake Golf and Country Club. His wife, Brandi, who is a 2008 VRHS graduate, is currently teaching at Glanton-Hindsman Elementary School. We reside in Bowdon where we intend to remain after our retirement from education.
