Congratulations to Jennifer Harris, our TOTY! We are very proud of her at VRHS!

Jennifer Harris began her teaching career before even graduating from college. Desiring to serve at-risk students, she accepted a position at Lithia Springs High School in Lithia Springs, GA prior to graduating with a Social Studies Education degree from the University of Georgia in 2012. Serving as a World History teacher, she completed her first year of teaching while helping this at-risk school improve.

After that, she moved closer to home and began teaching at Central High School in Carrollton, GA. At this juncture, Jennifer taught AP English Language as well as World Literature. Soon, Jennifer became the lead for multiple teams including U.S. History, World Literature, and AP Language. Additionally, Jennifer was chosen as a Gilder Lehrman Summer Institute Scholar and was able to travel to Montana to study the Lewis and Clarke Expedition.

In 2016, she took an opportunity to return to the Social Studies department and transferred to Villa Rica High School in Villa Rica, GA. Here, she led the World History PLC for a year and then began leading the U.S. History team. During the year of 2017-2018, Jennifer became the coordinator for the International Skills Diploma Seal program. She also participated in the GLISI teacher leader cohort and won a Bright Ideas Grant from Carroll EMC.

At the end of this school year she was named both Social Studies department head and also Teacher of the Year for her school. She resides in Carrollton, GA and serves the community as a foster mom.
