Academic Decathlon Team Headed to Nationals!

Villa Rica High School Academic Decathlon Team represented Carroll County at the state competition over the weekend.



·         Silver in Super Quiz (a random selection of questions over every area of academics)

·         Gold in Large School State

·         Division IV National Representatives  


The team will be representing the state of Georgia at the national competition in Minnesota in April.


The following individual medals were earned:


·         Dakota Cox: Varsity Bronze in Science, and Gold in Social Science


·         Austin Skuczas: Varsity Gold in Science, Silver in Literature, Bronze in Art, and Silver in Social Science.


·         Heather Cook: Scholastic Bronze in Literature


·         Reagan Clay: Scholastic Bronze in Literature

·         (Heather and Reagan tied)  


·         Maxwell True: Varsity Bronze Essay

The Academic Decathlon team dominated at their winter scrimmage this past weekend at Parkview High School in Lilburn, GA, taking First Place overall! Their collective score was 18,014.29 points.

Here are the individual awards:

·        Ruth Miles- Gold in Science, Art, Literature, and Social Science & Silver in Music

·        Deverlyn Daniel- Bronze in Music

·        Heather Cook- Gold in Literature, Music, Economics, Social Science and Bronze in Art

·        Reagan Clay- Gold in Economics, Silver in Art and Social Science, and Bronze in Science and Math

·        Kelvin Duverge- Gold in Art and Silver in Literature, Math, and Science

·        Austin Skuczas- Gold in Social Science, Music, and Science, Silver in Art and Literature 

·        Max True- Silver in Social Science, Music, and Math. Bronze in Art and Economics

·        Dakota Cox- Gold in Economics, Art, and Literature, and Bronze in Math, Music, Social Science, and Science. 

Overall, the top scorers for Saturday were Ruth Miles with a score of 3,782.86 points, Heather Cook with a score of 3,120 points, and Ayden Barbree with 2,740 points.
