Congratulations to Breanna Hall who was named VRHS' 2012 Miss Wildcat at the Miss Wildcat Pageant, sponsored by the Beta Club and the FCCLA. For the first time in the history of the pageant, the competition was expanded to include young ladies from all schools in the Villa Rica cluster and two new awards categories were introduced, Most Photogenic and Peoples' Choice. In the Tiny Miss Wildcat Division, People's Choice was Christin Shryock, Most Photogenic was Alexis Arrowood, 2nd runner-up was Ciara Lowe, 1st runner-up was Sara Olivia Patano, and Tiny Miss Wildcat was Alexis Arrowood. In the Little Miss Wildcat Division, People's Choice was Gabrielle Cleveland, Most Photogenic was Jazmine Huff, 2nd runner-up was Izabelle Cole, 1st runner-up was Ava Sofia Strickland, and Little Miss Wildcat was Jazmine Huff. In the Young Miss Wildcat Division, People's Choice, Most Photogenic and 2nd runner-up was Jayla Phipps, 1st runner-up was Sara Aston, and Young Miss Wildcat was Lindsey Price. In the Junior Miss Wildcat Division, People's Choice was Racheal Attaway, Most Photogenic was Zaire Kee, 2nd runner-up was Rachel Attaway, 1st runner-up was Zaire Kee, and Junior Miss Wildcat was Julie Mitchell. In the Miss Wildcat Division, People's Choice was Deja Almon, Most Photogenic was Breanna Hall, Most Talented and Miss Congeniality was Katie Swank, 2nd runner-up was Bailey Stegall, 1st runner-up was Hallie Robison, and Miss Wildcat was Breanna Hall.

At the regional science fair on Friday, February 17th, Shifali Patel placed second in Chemistry for her comparison of antioxidant levels in hot and cold green tea, and Tommy Hannah placed first in Chemistry for his analysis of cost efficient solar cells made with organic dyes. Both students are eligible to go to the State Science and Engineering Fair at UGA.

Congratulations to Shifali Patel, who was named VRHS' 2012 STAR Student. Shifali currently holds a 4.2553 GPA at VRHS, where she is a member of the Beta Club, Student Government Association, Spanish Club, Spanish Honor Society, FBLA, Science Club, and the Academic Decathlon Team. Shifali recently completed the REACH Program at the University of West Georgia in scientific research, and she is the recipient of an Academic Letter, the Citizenship Award, and the Woodsmen of the World APUSH Award. As for her future plans, Patel is going to attend the University of Georgia where she will major in either Biology or Chemistry. Shifali chose Mrs. Nancy Hasbun as her STAR Teacher. Mrs. Hasbun, a Chemistry and Physics teacher at VRHS, received her Bachelors Degree from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, her Masters Degree from the State University of New York at Albany, and she received her teaching certificate from the University of West Georgia. Mrs. Hasbun has introduced many exciting activities to her students at VRHS, including the annual favorite, Mole Day. On December 3rd, our VRHS Chorus performed at The Mill Amphitheatre in downtown Villa Rica at the lighting of the Villa Rica Christmas Tree and the welcoming of Santa Claus.

To celebrate George Washington’s character, leadership, and accomplishments, Mrs. Hardegree's Advanced Placement US History class has placed a replica of Rembrandt Peale’s Porthole Portrait of George Washington in the Media Center atrium at Villa Rica High School. The portrait of Washington was provided free to the school through the Mount Vernon Education Initiative.

Mrs. Stassie's Economics class listens intently to Mrs. Sheila Denton (pictured) and Mrs. Amy Fowler of Wells Fargo as they explain Wells Fargo's Hands on Banking program. This is the second year that Mrs. Stassie has welcomed Wells Fargo into her classroom so that she can provide the students with some real-life, hands-on applications of what they are learning in her class, and this is also an excellent opportunity for members of our community to work with our students.

The students pictured above were selected to represent Villa Rica High School in the Special Olympics Area Bowling Tournament on Friday, Dec 2nd in Newnan. Each student participated with pride and school spirit. The following awards were given: Ryan Daniel - 3rd place, Rafael Ramos - 2nd place, Kenya Cousin - 2nd place, Katie Russell - 4th place, and Julian Hatmaker - 3rd place. Congratulations, Wildcats!!!
After a community effort, Villa Rica High School won the Cell Phones for Soldiers contest partnered with local dealership Liberty Chevrolet by collecting over 1400 cell phones!!! Villa Rica High School was one of 62 Atlanta area schools who participated in the contest.
Villa Rica Middle School and Bay Springs Middle School supported their efforts by collecting about 100 phones each. Crossroads Academy also supported their efforts by sending phones as well. Additionally, Justin Day at Chick-Fil-A in Villa Rica helped sponsor the 6 breakfasts that were awarded to the teacher's classrooms who collected the most phones at each school: at BSMS - Mrs. Minish's class collected 60 phones, at VRMS - Ms. Lewis' class collected 55 phones and at VRHS - Ms. Beasley's class collected 154, Mrs. Miles' class collected 97, Ms. Moore's class collected 95, and Mr. Gilliland's class collected 94 cell phones!!!
Thanks to Liberty Chevrolet and everyone's efforts, Villa Rica High School hosted a free private concert from Steel Magnolia for the VRHS students who participated in the contest on Tuesday, November 29th at 2 p.m. in the school gym. KICKs 101.5 was in attendance during the concert, as well as Chevrolet representives and other sponsors and members of the press. Congratulations to our Governor’s Honors Program county-level nominees! These students were nominated by their teachers in the following areas: Communicative Arts, Math, Science - Chemistry, Social Studies, Foreign Language - Spanish & French, Visual Arts, and Music - Voice. They competed against other 10th and 11th grade students in our county for a chance to attend the State-Level Interview. If they are selected as a State Finalist, they will attend a four-week summer residential program on Valdosta State University’s campus. Congratulations to Breanna Hall who was crowned Villa Rica High School’s Homecoming Queen on September 30th, culminating a whole week of Wildcat Spirit that was on display through hall decorations, float decorations, dress-up days, a Homecoming pep rally, and a Homecoming victory over Paulding County. Following our victory, the students enjoyed the Golden Secret Homecoming Dance, where Brandon McCoy was crowned Homecoming King. In the Homecoming competitions, the sophomore class won the Homecoming float decoration contest; the senior class won the hall decoration contest; the seniors won the spirit contest; and at the pep rally, the seniors continued their domination by being awarded the Spirit Stick. In the final tally, the seniors were in first place overall, followed by the sophomores, freshmen, and finally, the juniors.
